WHAT IS BABY DANCE CLUB?

BABY DANCE CLUB™️ IS A 30 MINUTE DANCE CLASS FOR THE PARENTS/CAREGIVERS OF BABIES… AND THEIR BABIES!

Russell and Fili, co-founders of Flux Flow Dance Center, saw a need for new parent/caregiver centered activities in the Columbus area after welcoming a baby into their family. In those first months, Russell spent many hours in the kitchen dancing their baby gently to sleep and thought a gentle movement class would be a perfect way to connect with others caring for little ones. The class was designed to create community and joy for adult participants while providing tools to connect with babies through dance. The dance class includes a small warm-up portion to a fun, upbeat playlist before moving into a short, simple choreography participants can move through together. It is meant for babies young enough that when they’re dancing it’s all the stimulation they need. While the dancing only lasts 30 minutes, the studio time is held for an additional 30 minutes to build connections and share resources. Building community reinforces the idea that caring for oneself and caring for a newborn doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Fili Pelacchi

Russell (he/him), creator of Baby Dance Club™, and spouse and business partner Fili (they/them) are dance artists who co-founded Flux + Flow Dance and Movement Center in 2017 to create an inclusive, joyful space for dance. This space—and the community that has grown around it—is an extension of their values which are grounded in the conviction that all dancing bodies are beautiful regardless of age, race, size, gender expression, and dis/ability. Russell and Fili see every member of their community as an artist and they take great care in assisting them to connect with movement and their bodies in the way that feels right for them as individuals.

Fili (from Florence, Italy) and Russell (Columbus native) each had international dance careers spanning a decade before meeting one another in a contemporary dance company in Munich, Germany. Their personal and artistic connection motivated them to found FluxFlow Dance Project in Columbus. In addition to sharing their love of dance through teaching, they create dance theater performances in collaboration with local artists and members of the Flux + Flow Dance Center community.
